SHAH ALAM, Jan 5 — The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) will bear the cost to rebuild 32 houses belonging to flood victims in Hulu Langat which were washed away and severely destroyed during the flooding incident last month.

State executive councillor for youth development Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the Hulu Langat District and Land Office will also chip in to ensure the reconstruction process would go on smoothly.

Khairuddin, who is leading the district’s post-flood coordination committee said the assistance is given to all victims in the condition that they owned the land.

“This assistance is not only for the asnaf group but also to those who have lost their houses.

“As of now, many are staying with close relatives and some are staying in the cabin provided by the state government, while others chose to rent houses. Their monthly rental will be borne by LZS too,” he said when contacted by SelangorKini yesterday.

On December 29, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said Hulu Langat was the worst-hit district during the flooding incident and more focus was given to the post-flood cleanup efforts within the area.

The Menteri Besar said it was followed by Taman Sri Muda in Shah Alam and Kampung Bukit Lanchong in Subang Jaya.

Previously, the state government had allocated RM2 million under the Selangor Bangkit initiative for the recovery of major areas in Hulu Langat.
