SHAH ALAM, Jan 3 — Approximately 28,506 tonnes of bulk waste caused by the recent heavy floods from December 17 to December 19 last year has been removed from areas under the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) as of yesterday.
Based on an infographic shared on Twitter, a total of 12 of the 21 areas under MBSA’s jurisdiction which were affected by the floods, have been completely cleared with an estimated 3,042 tonnes removed every day.
The cleanup work involved 250 MBSA personnel, as well as 65 from KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) and 45 volunteers, the operation also involved 207 lorries and 60 backhoe loaders.
Meanwhile, MBSA informed that the collection of flood waste in Taman Sri Muda has reached 11,919 tonnes in the same period with a daily collection of 2,490 tonnes.
The cleanup involved 135 lorries and 45 backhoe loaders involving 43 personnel from MBSA and KDEBWM as well as 45 volunteers.
Previously, KDEBWM managing director Ramli Mohd Tahir informed that the post-flood waste collection process in several locations has reached between 65 to 85 per cent, and is expected to be completed as early as Thursday.
