HULU LANGAT, Dec 29 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Amirudin Shari today visited the landslide area at Kampung Orang Asli Genting Peras, here.
The Menteri Besar who rode a motorcycle to the area was briefed by Fire and Rescue Department personnel on the latest situation on the landslides around the Orang Asli village.
He also deployed a team of volunteer hikers and firemen to carry food supplies and daily necessities to the villagers who were trapped when landslides destroyed the road leading to their village, during heavy rain two weeks ago.
In his speech there, Amirudin said the aid mission is being carried out for the second time for flood victims in the village.
“The state government and the disaster unit are thankful for the commitment shown by the team. I was told that for the team to arrive at the village, they must go through 20 to 30 landslide checkpoints.
“I hope the volunteers will remain cautious as it is quite risky for them because the soil structure is still soft. This is not only a humanitarian mission but we also must consider safety factors to avoid any untoward incident,” he said.
Amirudin was also involved in the cleanup process in several flooded areas around Hulu Langat including at Batu 16/17 and Taman Sri Nanding from as early as 8am today.
He also handed over post-flood donations to flood victims at the Sungai Serai temporary relief centre.
Torrential rain from December 17 until 19 resulted in double the rainfall compared to the previous high of 180 millimetres, which caused severe flooding in several locations in Selangor.
