Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said he is optimistic the works can be completed as soon as possible, despite the area facing  severe erosion since December 17.

“We expect the maximum amount of time it will take to restore the bridge  is until January 20, 2022, before it will be opened to the public probably two or three days later after safety checks are conducted..

“Works including flood mitigation, piling, and shift piling installation will be carried out immediately,” he said at a press conference after visiting post-flood areas in Sepang today.

Estimated to cost RM800,000, the bridge’s restoration works will be managed by the Works Department, in collaboration with the Selangor Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID).

Amirudin added the restoration works could delay the flood mitigation process in Sungai Langat, which commenced in July this year and is expected to complete on July 20, 2023.

“This is part of the continuous effort from the state government through DID to overcome flood problems in the Sepang district and surrounding areas,” he said.

Torrential rain from December 17 until 19 resulted in double the rainfall compared to the previous high of 180 millimeters, which caused severe flooding in several locations in Selangor.
