SEPANG, Dec 28 — Over 30,000 families affected by the recent floods will receive the RM1,000 cash aid under the Selangor Bangkit programme, beginning tomorrow.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the initiative will also cover families who did not relocate to the temporary relief centres (PPS).

“We will call the families who have returned to their houses from the PPS. For those who did not want to be placed in PPS during the disaster, they will also receive aid, and we will try to identify them.

“In Sepang, 9,000 families chose not to go to PPS, while some 9,000 other families were relocated. The total number of families in Sepang alone has exceeded 18,000, let alone other areas.

“In Taman Sri Muda, we are currently still figuring out the exact numbers, and based on my observation over 30,000 families are eligible to receive the cash aid,” he said in a press conference during his post-flood visit in Sepang today.

During his visit, Amirudin also helped to clean a few houses at Kampung Chemperai in Dengkil, and oversaw repair works at a bridge connecting Dengkil and Banting which collapsed during the flooding.

On December 21, the Selangor government allocated RM100 million in funds under ‘Selangor Bangkit’, due to the flood incident last week.

Apart from infrastructural recovery, the initiative also covers cash aid of RM10,000 to the families of flood victims who perished in the incident.

The RM1,000 cash aid also will be distributed to the heads of families to help restore their homes and cover damages.
