KLANG, Dec 26 — The RM1,000 aid provided by the state government to flood victims has helped to offset their expenditure in replacing some of their damaged items caused by the disaster.

Chua Thai Thiam, 51, said the first thing he will buy upon receiving the aid is a washing machine, as he has too many clothes to wash.

"For now I am washing them with my hands, and I cannot send them to the dry cleaners as I have no money, since I stopped working after I had a stroke.

"I thank the state government for the RM1,000 aid, which has reduced the burden of my family and me," he said when asked at Taman Sentosa in Klang yesterday.

For housewife S. Bathmavathy, 38, she did not expect the water bill for this month would be waived for flood victims.

"It was a worry, since I feared it could cost hundreds of ringgits this month, as we used a great deal of water to clean our home throughout the week.

"Thank you to the Selangor government, I thought aid was limited to the RM1,000, but it seems other forms of aid were also given," she said.
