MB: Aid provided to Bukit Changgang residents who refused to move

SHAH ALAM, Dec 21 — Dry foods were provided to the 10 families at Pangsapuri D' Menara Bukit Changgang in Kuala Langat, who refused to move to a temporary relief centre (PPS) following the floods.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the residents were also provided with other items, including candles and power banks, as the electricity supply to the apartment has been cut off.

"They chose to stay there because they felt safe. They live on the third floor and above (where the floodwaters did not reach) and informed us that they have adequate food supplies.

“Yet we will still send aid to top up their supplies. At least for a week or so, until the floodwater has completely receded, and even now I can see a significant decrease,” he said.

Amirudin said this after participating in the Dapur Ehsan gotong-royong programme organised by the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) at his official residence earlier today.

He added that almost 600 families staying in terrace houses, village houses, and apartments around Bukit Changgang who were stranded by the floods have been successfully evacuated to PPS from Sunday to yesterday.

Amirudin said that all the victims were evacuated by the state disaster management agency, which used more than 17 boats from the local authority and individuals, during a rescue operation that took place from 10am to 10pm.

"The Bukit Changgang area remains problematic, as it needs to be reached by boat to save tens of thousands of residents," he said.
