BANGI, Nov 11 — The state government has allocated RM2.19 million via the Poverty Eradication Blueprint programme for this year, said state executive councillor for socio-economic development V Ganabatirau.

He said up to 529 individuals have benefited from the allocation, through business equipment assistance since this August.

"Overall from 2008 until August this year, up to 5,035 traders have been successfully aided via the programme, with an allocation of over RM16.6 million.

"Various initiatives have been implemented by the state government, with the drafting of assistance programmes that can generate income and which does not ignore the people's socio-economic situation," Ganabatirau said, after handing over an edge sewing machine to recipient Nur Faralia Mohammad Hafiz at Kuarters Pejabat Daerah dan Tanah Hulu Langat earlier today.

The executive councillor said he hopes recipients will be able to benefit from the assistance provided, to recover themselves after the Covid-19 pandemic.

"The pandemic has affected both the businesses and livelihoods of the people. We hope with this assistance, it will be a source to boost their incomes," Ganabatirau said.

The programme involves the low-income and poor categories with skills to continue their endeavours in fields including sewing, sundry shops, food and beverage, childcare, small businesses, and handcrafts.
