PUTRAJAYA, Nov 1 — The Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC) today entered into a partnership with Siemens Malaysia to produce a skilled workforce to meet the requirements of the Industrial Revolution 4.0.

The Menteri Besar said the move will strengthen the state's efforts to develop industrial workers through the Smart Selangor Technical and Professional Skills Initiative (Iktisass) programme introduced in 2018.

Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said through the collaboration, the industry and educational institutions will formulate a syllabus to meet the current needs that support Selangor’s five economic clusters, including transportation.

“Siemens is involved in the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project and through that cooperation, we can create a syllabus on transportation technology.

“I believe with this synergy we can solve the problems of industry needs, before this we implemented things without determining what the industry needed,” he said after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the state government, STDC and Siemens here today.

Also present were Selangor State Secretary Dato’ Haris Kasim, STDC chairman Dato’ Zamani Ahmad Mansor as well as Siemens Malaysia president and chief executive officer Adam Yee.

Through the collaboration, Siemens will transfer the technological knowledge to the STDC, which will train 1,000 workers annually.

The collaboration is to bridge the talent gap to meet the needs of the industry in terms of IR 4.0 skills.
