SHAH ALAM, Oct 22 — Some 3,500 food packs have been distributed to the Indian community in Selangor, in conjunction with the Deepavali celebrations early next month.
The distribution — for low-income families (B40) — was carried out through the Indian Community chief involving an allocation amounting to RM192,000, said state executive councillor for community welfare V. Ganabatirau.
He said the packs, worth RM55 each, comprises cooking items for traditional Indian food. Ganabatirau added he hopes the distribution would help to ease the recipient’s burden.
“It has been two years since the country was hit by the pandemic, and it has greatly affected almost everyone. Furthermore the sluggish global economy is similarly affecting the job market and causing more people to lose their incomes.
“Hopefully, the initiative to distribute food packs will bring smiles to their faces in preparation to celebrate Deepavali,” he said when contacted by SelangorKini.
Similarly Ganabatirau said no grand-scale Deepavali open house will be organised this year, although Klang Valley has moved into Phase Four of the National Recovery Plan.
“Unlike the norm, the open house event has to be cancelled due to Covid-19, not to mention the fact that it requires thorough preparation at least two to three months beforehand,” he said.
