Bed usage for Covid-19 patients in Klang Hospital sees over 80 pct drop

SHAH ALAM, Sept 21 — Usage of critical care or intensive care unit (ICU) beds for Covid-19 patients in Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah (HTAR) in Klang has dropped by over 80 per cent, said its director.

Dr Zulkarnain Mohd Rawi said only 89 out of the 581 allocated beds are currently being used to accommodate daily patients.

“Bed usage in ICU ward is declining. Most of the patients are elderly people, not young people or youth.

“The patients are also unvaccinated. They are among the people in the state who have yet to receive the vaccine,” he told SelangorKini.

Dr Zulkarnain urged more individuals, including foreigners, to get vaccinated and protect themselves from infection.

As of Sunday (September 19), more than 78 per cent out of the 23.4 million population in the country have been vaccinated.

Earlier in August the director said the admission of Covid-19 patients into HTAR has declined by 70 per cent to 100 individuals, compared to the 400 patients in July.
