SHAH ALAM, Sept 14 — Muslim couples in Selangor who have yet to complete their vaccination are required to undergo the Real-Time Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test 72 hours (3 days) before their marriage solemnisation (akad nikah) ceremony.

The directive issued by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) is also applied to their ‘wali’ (custodian).

In a Facebook post, Jais informed that the test result must be handed over to the marriage registrar before the ceremony takes place.

According to Jais, the marriage registrar head or religious affairs officer can postpone or cancel the ceremony should the couple fail to comply with the conditions.

The agency also informed that the akad nikah ceremony can be performed in person at Jais, religious offices and mosques every day.

The number of people allowed during the ceremony is three, consisting of the groom, the bride and the wali. Even photographers are prevented from entering.

Individuals who have a digital certificate or a vaccine card must meet the following criteria:

  1. Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Sinovac:

More than 14 days from the date of the second injection

  1. Johnson & Johnson and CanSino:

More than 28 days from the date of the second injection
