SHAH ALAM, Aug 20 — The number of hospital admissions of Covid-19 patients has reduced based on the current usage of patient beds in the hospitals in Selangor.

Selangor State Health Department director Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman said between August 1 and 17, the bed usage in the hospitals for Covid-19 patients had decreased by 20 per cent.

He said from the current capacity of 7,780 beds allocated for Covid-19 patients, 81 per cent is in use compared to the 101 per cent recorded on August 1.

He said the use of beds in the intensive care units (ICU) had also dropped to 90 per cent from the previous 100 per cent capacity.

“In fact when the cases peaked, some patients had to be treated using the ventilator outside of the ICU.

“In the last two weeks, the situation has improved and the number of patients above 60 years old in ICU has also declined after the group has been vaccinated,” he said yesterday.

Meanwhile, Dr Sha’ari reminded those with chronic illnesses to be more careful and always adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) even though they are fully vaccinated.

“Get proper treatment and make sure to stay healthy. The symptoms may worsen if you get infected but this can be avoided by getting vaccinated,” he said.
