SHAH ALAM, August 4 — More than 80 per cent of the Klang Valley population is expected to complete two shots of Covid-19 vaccines by the end of the month.

Capacity Surge Operation coordinator Dr Ong Kian Ming said the high daily infectivity rate that is seen now will also eventually decrease.

He said the Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax) organised by the state government, which began in June, would also help in achieving the target.

“Selvax is a good move initiated by the state government to complement the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK). The collaboration aims to ensure that the Selangor residents have at least received one dose of the vaccine by the end of August, including those who have registered through the MySejahtera application.

“Its (Selvax) success is not only for the state but it extends to the Klang Valley as well because there are residents in Kuala Lumpur who get their jabs in Selangor,” he said during a talk show segment titled ‘Klang Valley’s Vaccination Surge’ broadcast live on Media Selangor Facebook and Selangor TV Youtube channel last night.

Ong, who is also the Bangi MP, said the target to complete vaccination for Selangor’s residents will enable the state to move on to the next phase under the National Recovery Plan.

The state government and Health Ministry have collaborated to allow individuals who have received their vaccination dates via MySejahtera to get their vaccines under Selvax at selected vaccination centres.

The move was carried out to ramp up the vaccination process in the state.
