SHAH ALAM, July 6 — The state government has approved RM1.2 million funds for 280 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) through the Selangor SME Digitalisation Matching Grant.

Selangor executive councillor for industry and trade Dato’ Teng Chang Khim said the grant is part of the effort to help SMEs in the state to digitalise their business.

He said for the first batch of applications which opened from April to June, the grant’s special evaluation committee has approved 280 out of 492 applications.

“The number of applications we received is on track with our target to reach 1,000 SMEs this year,” Teng said today.

He also invited other SMEs who did not manage to register during the first batch to do so when the application reopens on August 1.

The grant was launched by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari on April 12 to help SMEs with digital transformation.

A total of RM5 million is allocated for the programme and it is expected to benefit 1,000 small traders with total assistance of between RM1,000 to RM5,000.

Five digitalisation sectors that were offered in the programme are e-commerce; human resource system; account system; digital marketing and Electronic Point of Sale (e-PoS) system and payment gateways.
