PETALING JAYA, July 1 — Selangor has been negotiating for vaccine procurement with the suppliers since early this year, says Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

However, he said that approval from the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) and Health Ministry was only obtained in June.

“Therefore, there is no issue of Selangor ‘stealing’ or taking vaccine stocks allocated for the Federal government and in fact, Pharmaniaga has supplied more than expected.

“I hope by having the Selangor Vaccination Programme (Selvax), it would help in expediting herd immunity sooner by October this year,” he said during a press conference after visiting the Selvax vaccination centre (PPV) at Tropicana Garden Mall, here yesterday.

Tropicana Garden Mall is the largest PPV under Selvax with the ability to administer 16,000 doses of vaccine daily.

Selvax, which comprises of Selvax Community and Selvax Industry, was launched yesterday to complement and expedite vaccine delivery to the community and industrial workers in Selangor.

The programme will benefit 1.25 million people in the state and the targeted recipients include those in the low-income group (B40), senior citizens and Inisiatif Peduli Rakyat recipients.
