SHAH ALAM, May 19 — The Selangor Task Force for Covid-19 (STFC) has urged the Federal government to implement a targetted movement control order (MCO) in the state instead of a total lockdown in order to effectively control the spread of the Covid-19 infection.
Its chairman Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad had also hoped that the Putrajaya would reconsider the proposed full-scale movement restrictions in Selangor.
He said the Federal administration should not be evaluating the situation in Selangor simply by analysing the daily Covid-19 cases due to the state’s high population density of 6.9 million and industrial sector.
“Selangor cannot be said as the most critical Covid-19 case as the state is the fourth place after Sabah, Kuala Lumpur, and Sarawak in terms of population ratio.
“Apart from that, the infectivity rate is not as high compared to other states. We prefer a targetted lockdown that is more effective,” said the former Health Minister during a press conference broadcast live on Facebook today.
Also present was state executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud.
Dzulkefly had reminded Putrajaya to take into consideration the plight of the people who would be affected by a total movement restriction, including small traders, workers and students.
On Monday, Health Minister Dr Adham Babe had said that the Health Ministry is considering imposing a full-scale MCO in Selangor if the Covid-19 cases in the state continue to rise.
