AirAsia’s engineering arm gets CAAM’s approval for base maintenance services

KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 — AirAsia Group Bhd’s wholly-owned engineering services unit, Asia Digital Engineering Sdn Bhd (ADE), has obtained approval from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) to provide base maintenance services.

AirAsia said with the approval, ADE would not only perform regular line maintenance but also base maintenance (hangar or C check -- heavier checks) for the group’s airlines.

“It will also be available to support third party airlines for aircraft maintenance repairs and overhaul (MRO),” it said in a statement today.

ADE chief executive officer Mahesh Kumar said the group had been sending aircraft to other MRO operators for scheduled base maintenance, but now it could be done in Malaysia to reduce maintenance costs.

“With this base maintenance approval from CAAM, ADE is now poised to become not just the biggest MRO in Malaysia, but also one of the biggest in Asean and beyond,” he said.

Founded in September 2020, ADE offers a range of aircraft services focused on the Airbus A320, A321 and A330 for line maintenance services, component and warehouse services, and engineering support services.
