SHAH ALAM, April 23 — During a raid on Wednesday (April 21), the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Selangor enforcement branch seized 10,000 pairs of fake shoes worth RM300,000 from three online traders.

Selangor KPDNHEP director, Muhamad Zikril Azan Abdullah, said 13 enforcement officers and three trademark representatives were involved in the 11.30am simultaneous Ops Jeriji at three different storehouses in Taman Desa Sijangkang, Telok Panglima Garang; Pelangi Square, Petaling Jaya; and Space U8, Shah Alam.

“These premises were raided after surveillance and investigation over the past two weeks revealed they were being used as storehouses and distributions centres for the fake footwear which were being traded through social media networks like Facebook and Instagram,” he said in a statement today.

He said the traders sold them wholesale to pasar malam traders and other online traders around the Klang Valley, apart from having regular customers who visited their premises.

“Three men aged 22 - 46 were arrested during the raid. While having their statement recorded they confessed to being the owners of the businesses and seized goods,” said Muhamad Zikril.

He said the fake shoes believed from China and costing between RM15 and RM30 per pair were sold for up to RM70 per pair.

Motivated by high demand, it is believed they have been trading in fake shoes for three years.

“The suspects were granted bail with one surety after their statements were recorded at the KPDNHEP Shah Alam branch,” said Muhamad Zikril.

The case is being investigated under Section 102 (1) (c) of the Trademarks Act 2019.
