Selangor Maqis seizes agarwood worth RM14,821 from Vietnam

SEPANG, April 15 — The Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) seized 100 kilogrammes of agarwood from Vietnam, worth RM14,821, at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport last Tuesday.

Acting Selangor Maqis director Zamri Hashim said the agarwood or its scientific name Aquilaria Crassna was seized as the consignment was found without a valid import permit.

He said importing agricultural produce without a valid permit is an offence under Section 11(1) of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 or Act 728, which carries a fine of not more than RM100,000 or imprisonment for a period not exceeding six years or both, upon conviction.
