PETALING JAYA, Feb 4 — Petaling Jaya MP Maria Chin Abdullah has organised a biscuit-making course to help women from the lower-income group to generate income.
Maria said the ‘Cookies For a Cause’ project started early this year using funds allocated by the Kita Selangor Package that focuses on low-cost apartment communities.
In her bid to nurture 100 entrepreneurs through the programme, Maria said the participants will be exposed to training and online marketing strategies as well as financial management.
“Most of them are earning RM2,000 or less, and there are even some who do not even have an income to the point that their children have to tighten their belt when there’s only food to eat twice or thrice a week.
“Therefore, I hope this project would be able to empower the women’s economy, not just to be wealthy, but sufficient to keep food on the table,” Chin said after her visit to the cleaning activity at the Lembah Subang 1 People’s Housing Project (PPR) yesterday.
According to her, ten women from the PPR concerned have joined the course and gotten positive responses for their business venture.
Thus far, they have received bookings for 100 containers of biscuits.
She added that bookings for the biscuits can be made through the following link: https://forms.gle/7qagDyuErraKZLTR8
Profits will be fully channeled to the community.
