Selangor DOE conducts checks on factories, ensure waste disposal comply with SOP

By Norrasyidah Arshad

KAJANG, Feb 3 — The Selangor Department of Environment (DOE) is actively conducting checks on factory premises throughout the state to ensure industrial waste is disposed appropriately.

State executive councillor for environment Hee Loy Sian said many factories release industrial waste through unlicensed disposal management companies without considering the risk to the environment.

“Chemical wastes should be managed by accredited contractors, therefore DOE is checking every factory to ensure that they follow the right standard operating procedure (SOP),” Hee said after visiting the site where 165 litres of abandoned chemical wastes were discovered here.

In November last year, the state executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han advised factory owners to use DOE’s services to dispose of industrial wastes.

He explained that although the process requires a high capital, it can prevent problems of pollution that lead to inconvenience for all.
