PETALING JAYA, Jan 31 — The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) is urged to immediately appoint a new maintenance contractor to resolve issues plaguing residents at the Lembah Subang 1 People's Housing Project (PPR).

Seri Setia assemblyman Halimey Abu Bakar said since the termination of service of its previous contractor Intra Harta Sdn Bhd in December last year, the PPR flats had problems in the management of bulk waste, clogged drains and damages to the building’s infrastructure.

He said this has affected the wellbeing of nearly 6,000 residents in the eight blocks of the low cost flats, who are forced to live while smelling the unpleasant odour.

“We received a complaint that the situation at the PPR flats is quite critical after it was abandoned for nearly a month as no contractor was appointed as a replacement.

“Supposedly issues such as the collection of bulk waste comes under KPKT’s appointed maintenance contractor as the domestic waste is already managed by the KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd (KDEBWM),” he said at a press conference here today.

Meanwhile, Halimey said they would send a letter to the ministry to request for appropriate action.

"We had expected a contractor to be appointed this month but yet there is still no development leading to complaints raised by the residents every day.

"I hope KPKT can help resolve this issue and even if there is no new appointment, at least appoint temporary contractors that can manage the PPR flats every month," he added.
