SHAH ALAM, Jan 5 — A copper (cuprum) melting factory at Jalan Zurah 1, Perindustrian Zurah, in Hulu Selangor, has been sealed off for operating without approval by the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MDHS) in an operation on December 31 last year.

The joint-operation between MDHS with the Department of Environment (DOE) and police was done after the premises disobeyed a notice of closure dated November 27, 2020, by breaking the padlock and chains, and restarted the melting process without permission.

“During our investigation at the premises, we found the equipment is still hot with the raw materials waiting to be processed,” it said in a statement yesterday.

MDHS said the company’s chief executive officer and representative of the premises were called to the premises for a brief discussion.

“The 14-days notice of closure from December 31, 2020, until January 13 was served under By-Laws 43(1)(a) and (b) of the By-Laws Trade, Businesses & Industrial (MDHS) 2007.

“Periodic surveillance will be conducted to ensure that the premises do not operate. We have also requested for Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) to cut the electricity and water supply.
