SHAH ALAM, Dec 14 — The RM200 million project to overcome raw water sources pollution in Selangor was approved after consultation with experts.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the state evaluated and scrutinised all the proposals made to ensure the plan’s effectiveness.

“The state government held several meetings with experts until we are satisfied with the proposals among which included diverting the flow of polluted water to other areas before it enters the treatment plant,” said Amirudin to the media when met at the Selangor State Secretariat Building here today.

Yesterday, Amiruddin announced that the project to implement four strategies to resolve raw water sources pollution is expected to be completed within 15 months.

The measures include:

  1. Amendment to the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) (Amendment) 2020 Bill that imposes heavier punishment for environment polluters
  2. A pilot biological treatment project to rejuvenate the water quality of Sungai Gong, Rawang, through the combined biological and physical method
  3. 24-hour monitoring by the Luas Rapid Squad at sensitive areas of raw water sources at Sungai Selangor and Sungai Langat river basins
  4. Implementation of the raw water source pumping project from the Hybrid Off-River Augmentation System (Horas) 600 reserve pond at Sungai Selangor and Sungai Semenyih
