Exco: Six local councils already using bodycams

SHAH ALAM, Nov 25 — Enforcement officers from six local authorities in Selangor have started using body-worn cameras while working in the field, says the state executive councillor for local government.

Ng Sze Han said the local councils include Shah Alam City Council, Petaling Jaya City Council, Subang Jaya City Council, Sepang Municipal Council, Ampang Jaya Municipal Council and Klang Municipal Council.

“The remaining six local authorities are in the process of completing the purchase and we hope by next year enforcement officers of all the 12 local authorities will fully utilise their bodycams.

"The use of this equipment increases the efficiency and integrity of the authorities, especially if an unexpected incident occurs while on duty," he told SelangorKini.

On June 22, Ng said all local authorities were given time until the end of the year to equip their enforcement officers with body-worn cameras.

This followed the circulation of a video showing a woman beating an enforcement member after her car was towed in Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh, Section U20 in Shah Alam on February 6.

A week later, another video was circulated showing a dispute between an MPSJ enforcement officer and an elderly man, reportedly taking place in USJ9, Subang Jaya.
