SHAH ALAM, Nov 24 — Single mothers or couples facing an unplanned pregnancy and unable to care for their newborn or are in need of support have been urged to not dump their babies.
Kampung Tunku state assemblyman Lim Yi Wei had instead advised that the babies be brought to baby hatch centres available across the country.
“Please do not just dump your baby. You can bring your baby to baby hatches which are operated by NGOs such as OrphanCare Foundation, which are available in Petaling Jaya, Johor Bahru and Sungai Petani, or KPJ hospitals.
“OrphanCare also provides counselling services. You are not alone,” said Lim in a Facebook post yesterday.
Lim highlighted the matter in the wake of a baby-dumping incident at Masjid Ridhwani Sungai Way in Petaling Jaya on Sunday.
“Our Masjid Ridhwani Sungai Way nazir, Sabaruddin, had informed me that a baby’s body was discovered outside the mosque last night (November 22). The baby girl was roughly estimated to be around two or three months old,” Lim added.
A baby hatch is a safe place for babies to be placed by new mothers who are in a state of mind that could endanger the safety of their new-born children.
The hatch is open 24 hours a day run by OrphanCare Foundation. For 24-hour support, contact the foundation at these numbers:
