KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 — Six more new clusters have been found today involving four clusters in Sabah and one each in Selangor and Penang.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the new clusters bring the total active clusters nationwide to 70.
Among the clusters identified in Sabah are Semarak cluster, Bina cluster, Sabindo cluster and Bestari cluster while in Selangor, it is the Bah Kenangan cluster and the Penjara Jawi cluster in Penang.
“The Semarak cluster was identified in Tawau district with the index case for the cluster (case 12200th) identified Covid-19 positive from screening on a symptomatic individual on October 3 and was admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Close contact screenings found 13 more positive cases,” he said in a virtual media conference via the Health Ministry Facebook site today.
Commenting on the Bina cluster identified in Beaufort, Sabah, he said the index case for the cluster (Case number 15575th) was detected positive for Covid-19 from admission screening at Sipitang Hospital on October 10.
The case was admitted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital and close contact screenings identified 13 more positive cases.
Dr Noor Hisham said for the Sabindo cluster in Tawau, the index case (case number 11897th) was detected Covid-19 positive from screening on a symptomatic individual on October 3 and was warded at Tawau Hospital while close contact screenings found 13 more Covid-19 positive cases.
Apart from that, he said in the Bestari cluster identified in Sandakan, Sabah, the index case (case number 14830th) was detected positive from screening a symptomatic individual on October 10 who was admitted to the Duchess of Kent Hospital, Sandakan.
He said close contact screenings yielded 18 more positive cases as at noon today.
Meanwhile, on the Bah Kenangan cluster in Hulu Langat district, Dr Noor Hisham said the cluster index case (case number 11802nd) was identified positive from screening on his return from a high-risk area (Sabah) on October 2 and was warded at Sungai Buloh Hospital.
Close contact screenings found 17 more Covid-19 cases, bringing the cluster’s total to 18 cases.
As for the Penjara Jawi cluster identified in Seberang Perai Selatan, in Penang, Dr Noor Hisham said three detainees were detected Covid-19 positive from admission screenings at Penang Remand Prison on October 11.
The three detainees did not have symptoms and were placed in a Low Risk Treatment Centre, he said.
Apart from these clusters, there were 21 clusters which recorded new cases today, among them the Tembok cluster which have 76 cases, Benteng LD cluster (23 cases), Penjara Reman cluster (18 cases), Bah Tropicana cluster (12 cases) and Simera (11 cases) while Jalan Meru cluster, Utama cluster as well as Kau Sing cluster have seven cases each.
