Low occupancy: Selangor to discuss with hoteliers

By Nadiah Zamlus

SHAH ALAM, Oct 12 — The Selangor government will meet hotel operators in the state to discuss on the low number of guests due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Tourism, Environment, and Green Technology Committee chairman Hee Loy Sian said the rise in coronavirus cases since September is one of the reasons for the decline.

“Hotel industry in Selangor as well as in other places in the country were affected since March but things were getting better when the locals started travelling domestically.

“However the rising number of cases (Covid-19) since a week ago have affected the numbers of visitors, thus we will meet hotel owners to find a solution,” he said when contacted.

On July 16, SelangorKini reported that three hotels in Selangor were forced to stop its operation as a result from the movement control order (MCO) enforcement.

A study by Tourism Selangor found that 50 per cent of the operators were affected as hotels was not listed as essential business during the MCO.
