Moderate quake hits Sumatra

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 4 — A moderate earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale occurred at 12.02am today in southern Sumatra, Indonesia.

The Meteorology Department, in a statement, said it occurred at 99 kilometre south of Bengkulu, Indonesia, at a depth of 45 kilometre.

However, it posed no tsunami threat to Malaysia.
