417 markets in Selangor reopens under strict SOP

PUCHONG, June 17 — A total of 417 morning markets, night markets and bazarias in Selangor has reopened in stages in selected locations beginning Monday.

Selangor Local Government, Public Transport and New Village Development Committee chairman Ng Sze Han said the markets will operate on a rotational basis set by the local authorities to ensure both traders and customers comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“We are aware of the plight of the traders who have lost their source of income for three months but we have to reopen the markets in stages.

“The local authorities need time to discuss with the hawkers and traders association. There will be a visit to each of the market locations and this will take some,” he told the media when met after visiting the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) morning market, yesterday.

Meanwhile, MPSJ president Noraini Roslan had called for the hawkers and traders association to work together in ensuring that the reopening of the markets would run smoothly.

“It would be difficult to leave everything to the local council. We hope that all parties would adhere to the SOP so that there would be no emergence of a morning or night market (Covid-19) cluster.

“We will also continuously monitor the markets,” she said.
