KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 — Intermittent heavy rain is causing worries among residents of Jalan Ampi 4, Taman Sri Ampang here, following the fourth landslide in the area early Monday morning.
According to a resident, Datuk Nik Ahmad Azmi Nik Md Daud, he and his family were having a pre-dawn meal before they heard the sound of landslides near his home.
He said the landslide had occurred three times before and he was worried that a bigger landslide would occur on a hill that had been categorised as Malaysia's second-oldest hill after Langkawi Island.
“What is worrying is that there are houses on the hill, if a landslide happens, the houses will be affected too,” he said.
He said when the first landslide occurred, the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council had taken proactive steps by building a concrete block over the hill, but for the second and third time, it was only covered with plastic sheets as a concrete wall would cost about RM250,000.
He, therefore, hoped that local authorities could monitor the land movement in the area.
In a Bernama TV coverage of the area, Tenaga Nasional Berhad workers were seen cutting down fallen trees that had hit the power cable.
