SHAH ALAM, March 29 — The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) says five of its marriage registrars or assistant marriage registrars, who were suspected to have contracted the Covid-19 virus, have tested negative for the infection.

Its director Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said a repeated test is not required as the Jais officers have not shown any prolonged symptoms such as fever, coughing and difficulty breathing.

“The quarantine period for three of the officers has ended yesterday (Friday), while the remaining two are under quarantine until Monday,” he told SelangorKini when contacted, yesterday.

On March 17, Jais had ordered the temporary suspension of the applications for Muslim marriages or akad nikah (solemnisation) in Selangor until the first phase of the movement control order (MCO) ends on March 18.

This was however extended following the extension of the second phase of the order until April 14.

Solomenisation ceremonies in the state were initially put on hold following several of Jais’ marriage registrars or assistant marriage registrars were placed under quarantine after being in close contact with a Covid-19 positive case at a recent nuptial ceremony held before the control order was enforced on March 18.
