KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 22 — Selangor has recorded 6,510 dengue cases in three weeks, which makes up more than half of the total cases nationwide.

According to the Health Ministry, statistics from the National Crisis Preparedness Response (CPRC) showed that 10,775 dengue cases were recorded in Malaysia from December 29 last year to January 21.

Selangor topped the list followed by Kuala Lumpur with 825 cases, Johor (808), Sabah (594), Kelantan (563), Perak (334) and Pahang (281).

Meanwhile, Sarawak recorded 268 cases, Malacca (169), Negeri Sembilan (157), Penang (118), Kedah (76), Putrajaya (43), Terengganu (19), Perlis (sembilan) dan Labuan (satu).

Previously, Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah had warned the public to take precautionary measures to reduce the number of dengue cases.

He urged the people to clean up their surroundings as Aedes mosquitos breed in stagnant water collected including puddles, water tanks, containers and old tires. This would contribute to the spread of the mosquitoes.
