Sungai Semenyih treatment resumes operation

SHAH ALAM, Dec 23 — The Sungai Semenyih treatment plant has resumed its operation following this afternoon.

In a statement today, Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor), however, said that the Bukit Tampoi treatment plant still remains closed due to the odour pollution.

“The Sungai Semenyih treatment plant has resumed operations at 1pm. The treatment process would take some time before the treated water is supplied to the consumers.

“Air Selangor will give the latest developments from time to time on the supply of treated water,” said its corporate communications chief Abdul Halem Mat Som in the statement.

He said proactive measure has been taken by the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) to ensure the odour pollution reading is under control and does not reoccur

This was done by pumping out water from Tasik Idaman Sungai Buloh into Sungai Semenyih.

He said Air Selangor continues to provide emergency water supply assistance by distributing tanker trucks more frequently, with 11 local service centres to continue operating 24 hours in four districts.

The Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant was forced to shut down on Saturday following the odour pollution caused by the irresponsible dispose of illegal waste with solvent odours at the inlet around the Indah Water Konsortium’s plant.

The incident had affected 336,930 consumer accounts in Petaling, Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat and Sepang.

The public is urged to refer to the Air Selangor app, Facebook and Instagram or its website for information or updates.

Consumers can also contact Air Selangor at the 15300 phone line or WhatsApp to 019-2800919/019-2816793 for assistance.
